Fitna is Worse than Killing
Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani

(Suhbah starts @ 28:40)
Bismillahi ‘r-Rahmani ‘r-Raheem. As-salaatu wa ’s-salaamu `alaa ashrafi ‘l-mursaleena Sayyidina wa Nabiyyina Muhammadin wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi ajma`een…Where is the picture?…Sayyidina Muhammadin, `alayhi afdalu ‘s-salaatu wa ‘s-salaam, wa ‘t-tasleem. I am speaking five minutes as we have another event in the evening and another event at five o’clock.
Alhamdulillahi Rabbi ‘l-`Alameen, wa ’s-salaatu wa ’s-salaamu `alaa ashrafi ‘l-mursaleena Sayyidina wa Nabiyyina Muhammadin wa `alaa aalihi wa sahbihi ajma`een. This is a very holy month and Rajab tara ‘l-`ajab; in Rajab you see miracles and the biggest miracle is Israa’ wa ‘l-Mi`raaj, and there have been too many miracles throughout history.
Alhamdulillah on Saturday evening we were very happy with the Selangor Religious Affairs Ministry and that they issued us a permit for the stadium and we are thanking them that they allowed that program, which was attended by tens of thousands and I don’t want to exaggerate, but maybe there were twenty to thirty-thousand people attending for Mawlid an-Nabi (s) and a small advice for everyone.
It was a very nice, happy event that I think people were feeling the vibration of the event and the vibration of the qasaa’id in praise of Allah (swt) and in praise of Prophet (s). Then we left and we were able to feel that people in this country are, mashaa-Allah, very full of imaan and their imaan is keeping this country a place for Muslims, while of course some other countries are too, but we are here and we have to say what belongs to here. Alhamdulillah it was a very successful event and we appreciate the lovers of Prophet (s) who came, thousands and thousands of men and women.
The next day was 1st June 2013, 24th Rajab 1434, and we went in the morning to visit His Highness (Raja Ashman) at his maqaam in order that we pay our respects, and alhamdulillah, I was very happy to see groups from everywhere, coming from Indonesia, from Malaysia, from Somalia, from America, from Europe, from many, many different backgrounds. There were at least 400 people who paid from their own pockets to fly in for the event, and alhamdulillah, we sat there and did dhikr, recited Qur’an and did qasidahs and he was happy, for sure.
When I was looking, at the last Fatihah I saw, I could feel his warm body there and he was dressed in a white dress with very nice flowers, what do you call it in English? Zambak in Arabic (lilies). A type of real flowers on his dress, and in any case, I saw and Hajjah Naziha saw the grave coming up and coming down, as if there were a movement in the grave, to show his happiness at what is going on. We paid our respects, but when we were going out I heard a rumor that made me sad, not related to the visit, to the ziyarah, but related to something else about the whole tariqah. I felt sad, but what can you do? You cannot change anything.
إِنَّ اللّهَ لاَ يُغَيِّرُ مَا بِقَوْمٍ حَتَّى يُغَيِّرُواْ مَا بِأَنْفُسِهِمْ
Inna-Llaaha laa yughayyiru maa bi qawmin hattaa yughayyiroo maa bi anfusihim.
Verily, Allah does not change men’s condition unless they change their inner selves. (Surat ar-Ra`d, 13:11)
Allah will not change what is in people until the people change what is in themselves, but it came to me the verse from Holy Qur’an:
َالْفِتْنَةُ أَشَدُّ مِنَ الْقَتْلِ
Al-fitnatu ashaddu min al-qatli.
Tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter. (Surat al-Baqarah, 2:191)
Fitna is more hard and more painful than killing. Why? (You know, Sayyidee.) No, I know the answer, but I want you to say something. Al-fitnatu ashaddu min al qatli. Why is fitna, the confusion or the bad rumors, worse, more painful than killing a person? Because killing the person is once; you killed him, but fitna is killing them every day! Even fitna about the real (what really happened), don’t bring it up, so what about a wrong rumor? Wrong information kills you more. Those people who spread it, it becomes a disease. They spread it and those people who hear it, they believe it and say it to someone else, who say it to someone else and after a generation of people telling it, it becomes a reality as if it happened, but it didn’t happen.
I am not going to explain what that is, but it did happen and people are affected, like putting a worm in your body and it grows and grows until it becomes a snake in your body, and sometimes you take a tablet for a worm that becomes long and big inside you; these small worms that go inside with the food and become dragons inside. These rumors are something that come from–I don’t like to say–from a certain known place and they enter inside there, because it smells the same, and they go inside and it becomes a big tree of fitna.
What is the benefit? No benefit. Even if you see a fitna, Prophet (s) said to cover it, don’t show it up. And we are as one group here and we have to cover the mistakes of each other, not to blow them open, especially if they are not right!
I was in that mood and passing two hours to return, reaching back to Kuala Lumpur, and I was asking myself, “Why this fitna is coming up? Who gets benefit from it? No one.” I was with this sadness and calling on Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (q) and Prophet (s) and awliyaullah, “Why this fitna, for what reason?” And I was sad and at that moment, because we are in the struggle between good and evil, which is:
فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَاهَا
Fa alhamahaa fujoorahaa wa taqwaahaa.
He inspired the self of its good and its bad. (Surat ash-Shams, 91:8)
Allah inspired the self of what is good and what is bad, so the good side of myself, the soul which is pure, which everyone has a good side and bad side (was asking this). If the good side is more it is better, but the bad side is still there, but as much as the good side becomes more, the bad side becomes less. So as much as the good side becomes more it is better, and as much as the bad side becomes less, it is better. So at that moment I felt as if the good side came out from myself and this was happening the second time in my life, like the soul comes out and was flying out in the sky.
At that moment, Hajjah Naziha (q) pushed me and said, “Look, look, look! ” I looked and saw my image there, my real soul there, saying to me, “Say ‘Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadu ‘r-Rasoolullah!’” I said it and I said, “I forgive them for what they have said and what they are trying to spread.”
At that moment when she was saying, “Look at the sky!” and this is what came on the sky, the turban, my image with the turban. Show it to the camera (a photo on Mawlana’s mobile phone). So it appeared, that good self appeared there and said at that moment , “Don’t worry, just as Allah (swt) said to Sayyidina Musa (a), ‘You are going to be superior and stronger and they cannot put you down, you will put them down.’”
And we kept driving and still that soul was following, following, following, until it was covered by the trees that were green and it was very long.
So we say to those who spread the fitna, may Allah forgive you, may Allah bless you, and may Allah take away all obstacles that make everyone separated from each other, to unite, because Allah said:
وَاعْتَصِمُواْ بِحَبْلِ اللّهِ جَمِيعًا وَلاَ تَفَرَّقُواْ
W `atasimoo bi hablillaahi jamee`an wa laa tafaraqoo.
And hold fast, all together, by the rope which Allah (stretches out for you), and be not divided among yourselves. (Surat Aali-`Imraan, 3:103)
Hold tight to the rope of Allah and don’t separate. Inshaa-Allah we won’t separate in dunya or Akhirah.
Bi hurmati ‘l-habeeb, bi hurmati ‘l-Fatihah.
